The Sweetest, Most Surprising Way to Build a Better Party Playlist — The Rustic Bridal Shower

Building a playlist for a party is hard. How do you know what songs to pick? What if people don't share your same affinity for Jewel? Sure, you could put on a Pandora station and let it go, but you never know what you're gonna get that way.

The key to building a successful playlist for a bridal shower, bachelorette party, or really anything with a guest of honor is to let the other guests do the work.

Hear me out.

A Classic Crooner Playlist Inspired by Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse — The Great Steak Dinner

A key part of the steakhouse dining experience is the classic music you get to hear piped into the dining room. Inspired by the music played at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, we put together a mix of big band, jazz, and crooner classics to play when you're in that steak-eating mood.

Crank it up and imagine you're seated in a comfy leather booth, surrounded by mounds of roasted garlic mashed potatoes; a bubbling pot of lobster mac and cheese; and slabs of seared T-bones, New York strips, and rib-eyes.

A Kinda Classic Soundtrack for a Romantic Date Night In — Date Night In

So you and your boo have decided to stay in instead of going out. Good call! What's more romantic than cooking and enjoying a good meal together? It doesn't have to be complicated, nor does it have to be perfect. In fact, kitchen missteps often make for some of the most memorable nights. (Consider Bridget Jones' blue soup debacle.)

But there should be music. Good tunes set the mood and gives you an opportunity to show off those skills you've been perfecting in the shower.

We asked our favorite DJ, Austin Powers, to put together a playlist that starts off classic, but has a few surprises.

If you're Stevie Nicks, Monday morning sure looks fine. The rest of us, however, may need a little help putting some pep in our step. Step one: Caffeinate. Step two: Put on some tunes. But which ones? This is crucial; you want energetic, but not frenetic. Definitely no to Metallica.

We asked our go-to mix master, Austin Powers, to put together a playlist that strikes just the right balance.

We Be Jammin’: Tunes to Listen to While You’re Making Jam — Preserve 2.0

Preserving the season's bounty in a whirlwind jamming session is one of our very favorite things to do. Pots, pans, and jars crowd every available surface; bundles of ripe fruits and veggies stand at the ready; our hair is tied back; and our aprons are tied on.

But before we hull our first strawberry or rinse our first blueberry, we like to set the mood with some tunes. Something easygoing, but lively enough to keep the energy up while we're simmering, stirring, and straining.

The Happiest Songs to Play in the Kitchen — Kitchn Tunes

For many of us, being in the kitchen is about so much more than cooking. This is the place where we let loose, take our shoes off, sing off-key, and dance with abandon. It's where we clear our heads and find a private moment, and also where we congregate with friends and family. It's where important conversations happen. It is our happy place, and it's even happier when there are good tunes playing — sometimes a little too loudly.
